Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates has been a keynote speaker at the training programme co-organised by the Court of Appeal of Athens as well as the Greek Association of Judges & Prosecutors on the 'Application of EU law on special tort & contract, commercial, capital market, and personal data - EU state aid and energy law within the jurisdiction of national courts' (February, 7 to April, 10 2024).

His lectures contained practical examples from emblematic legal disputes before national courts, whose solution depends on Union law the dialogue between union and national justice.

Present at the 7th Athens Conference on EU Energy Law and Policy: Scientific Challenges on the way to the Energy Transition

Metaxas & Associates Law Firm supports and actively participates in the annual renowned scientific conference jointly organised by the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), the German Institute for Energy and Regulation (Institute für Energie und Regulierungsrecht) and the Research Group for Natural Resources Law, Environmental Law and Development Law of the University of Bergen (UiB) and had the support of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The 7th European Energy Law and Policy Conference titled “Scientific challenges on the way to the energy transition” took place on 14 December 2023.

Speakers were distinguished experts and academics who engaged into constructive discussussions on the latest developments in the energy news after the International Climate Conference (COP 28), the reform of the EU electricity market design, the EU policy on hydrogen and renewable gases, the prospects for offshore wind energy development, new trends in energy arbitration as well as ramifications of the EU’s withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty.

Scientific Directors of the Conference were our managing partner Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, who is besides also Chairman of HERI, Prof Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui, Associate Professor and Lead of the Research group for Climate, Energy and Environmental Law, UiB and Prof Jochen Mohr, Chair of Civil Law, Competition Law, Energy Law, Regulatory Law and Labour Law, Universität Leipzig and Managing Director of the Berlin Institute for Energy and Regulation (EnReg).

Amongst the speakers, in addition to Prof Dr Metaxas, who was a keynote speaker and panel modertator, lawyers – senior associates at Metaxas & Associates law firm Polyxeni D. Gkaintatzi and Dr Sofia Tzortzi also delivered speeches.

Present at COP28 | UNFCCC | Dubai (UAE)

Metaxas & Associates law firm is glad to have been invited to participate in the side events of the Greek pavillion in COP28. Greece’s participation in COP28 emphasises its ambition to become a key player in the Eastern Mediterranean’s energy sector and in the green transition.

As a result of Greece’s climate diplomacy in COP28, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Greek Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Masdar/Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) in order to transform the island of Poros into the next “Green-Smart Island”.

It has been a privilege for the Metaxas & Associates law firm to participate as a contributor among leading companies and service providers in Greece and beyond, at the distinguished 27th Government Roundtable, organised by the Economist.

Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates Law Firm and chairman of the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), participated at the panel discussig “The Energy Landscape in South-Eastern Europe”, along with the Greek Minister of Environment & Energy, Mr Theodoros Skylakakis, the Secretary-General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, Mr Osama Mobarez, the US Ambassador to Greece, Hon Mr George J. Tsunis, the CEO of the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA), Maria Rita Galli and other key personalities from the energy industry.

The panel had a vigorous and insightful discussion on the strategic alliances necessary to unlock the full potential of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Western Balkans, the importance of the Alexandroupolis FSRU project and the contribution of Greece in the energy security of Europe; putting forward new proposals for securing energy security in Europe and strengthening regional co-operation.

The recently published issue of the prominent legal Journal "Hellenic Justice” includes Prof. Dr. Metaxas' study on the characteristics and the peculiarities of contracts between RES producers and Electricity Market Operators. In addition, special reference and analysis is made as to the possibility for Operators to invoke specific objections for the non performance of their contractual obligations and the compatibility of those with EU Law - an issue that has been highly contested in the Greek court jurisprudence in recent years.

1st Hydrogen & Green Gases Forum | Athens (Greece)

Metaxas & Associates Law Firm participated in the 1st “Hydrogen & Green Gases Forum” that took place take place on June 23rd, 2023, at the Wyndham Grand Athens hotel.

 The Conference, hosted for the very first time by energypress.gr, aims to expand on the current topic of the exploitation and capitalization of Renewable Gases and especially Green Hydrogen by the European Union, in the form of legislative and regulatory decisions, and of course financial aid.
