Professor Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates law firm was invited to the “Future of Retail 2024” Conference of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE), which took place on the 5th and 6th of April 2024, at Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Elevate Greece. This major international conference of ESEE focuses on the transformations, concerns and proposals that make up the new landscape of Retailing in Greece and internationally, seeking to transform the emerging future of Retailing into a holistic conference and exhibition experience.

Prof Dr Metaxas participated in the panel titled: “From policy to practice: a multi-faceted approach to tackle illicit tobacco trade and preserve market sustainability,” where, along with Mr Giorgos Pitsilis, director general of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), and Ms Georgia Karountzou, director of corporate affairs and communication at the Greek branch of Japan Tobacco International (JTI), they highlighted significant regulatory parameters to ensure fair competition in the tobacco sector as well as in every field of business activity.

Metaxas & Associates Law Firm supports and actively participates in the annual renowned scientific conference jointly organised by the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), the German Institute for Energy and Regulation (Institute für Energie und Regulierungsrecht) and the Research Group for Natural Resources Law, Environmental Law and Development Law of the University of Bergen (UiB) and had the support of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The 7th European Energy Law and Policy Conference titled “Scientific challenges on the way to the energy transition” took place on 14 December 2023.

Speakers were distinguished experts and academics who engaged into constructive discussussions on the latest developments in the energy news after the International Climate Conference (COP 28), the reform of the EU electricity market design, the EU policy on hydrogen and renewable gases, the prospects for offshore wind energy development, new trends in energy arbitration as well as ramifications of the EU’s withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty.

Scientific Directors of the Conference were our managing partner Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, who is besides also Chairman of HERI, Prof Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui, Associate Professor and Lead of the Research group for Climate, Energy and Environmental Law, UiB and Prof Jochen Mohr, Chair of Civil Law, Competition Law, Energy Law, Regulatory Law and Labour Law, Universität Leipzig and Managing Director of the Berlin Institute for Energy and Regulation (EnReg).

Amongst the speakers, in addition to Prof Dr Metaxas, who was a keynote speaker and panel modertator, lawyers – senior associates at Metaxas & Associates law firm Polyxeni D. Gkaintatzi and Dr Sofia Tzortzi also delivered speeches.

Ms Polyxeni D. Gkaintatzi, senior associate at the Metaxas & Associates law firm, moderated at the 2023 Renewable Energy Investment & Asset Management (REIA), on November 30 and December 1st, 2023, at Divani Caravel  in Athens the panel titled “Turning Vision into Reality – Framing the European Hydrogen Business Case” concisting of Mr Thomas Fureder, Managind Director of the Barclays investment bank, Ms Federica Ballina, partner and head of European investments at Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners and Ulrich Laumanns, project manager of the GIZ.

Metaxas & Associates participated at the leading “5th Renewable & Storage Forum”, hosted by energypress.gr, on November, 2 and 3, 2023 at the InterContinental Athenaeum hotel.

Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates and chairman of the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), chaired the session titled “The Electricity Market in Search of the New Normal”, where Dimitrios Fourlaris, vice president & energy sector BoD, chairman of RAEWW, Loukas Dimitriou, general manager of HERON and president of the Hellenic Association of Independent Power Producers (HAIPP) and Antonios Kontoleon, president of the Hellenic Union of Industrial Consumers of Energy (UNICEN), shared their views on this important topic.

It has been a privilege for the Metaxas & Associates law firm to participate as a contributor among leading companies and service providers in Greece and beyond, at the distinguished 27th Government Roundtable, organised by the Economist.

Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates Law Firm and chairman of the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), participated at the panel discussig “The Energy Landscape in South-Eastern Europe”, along with the Greek Minister of Environment & Energy, Mr Theodoros Skylakakis, the Secretary-General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, Mr Osama Mobarez, the US Ambassador to Greece, Hon Mr George J. Tsunis, the CEO of the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA), Maria Rita Galli and other key personalities from the energy industry.

The panel had a vigorous and insightful discussion on the strategic alliances necessary to unlock the full potential of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Western Balkans, the importance of the Alexandroupolis FSRU project and the contribution of Greece in the energy security of Europe; putting forward new proposals for securing energy security in Europe and strengthening regional co-operation.

Metaxas & Associates Law Firm participated in the 1st “Hydrogen & Green Gases Forum” that took place take place on June 23rd, 2023, at the Wyndham Grand Athens hotel.

 The Conference, hosted for the very first time by energypress.gr, aims to expand on the current topic of the exploitation and capitalization of Renewable Gases and especially Green Hydrogen by the European Union, in the form of legislative and regulatory decisions, and of course financial aid.

Chatzifotis, EU Affairs Manager, Motor Oil and Mrs. Despina Tomadaki, Senior Loan Officer, European Investment Bank (EIB) Group’s Investment Team for Greece.
