Prof. Dr. Antonis Metaxas invited to address scientific conference on Independent Authorities
"Future of Retail 2024" conference | Athens | 5 & 6 April 2024
Professor Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates law firm was invited to the “Future of Retail 2024” Conference of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE), which took place on the 5th and 6th of April 2024, at Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Elevate Greece. This major international conference of ESEE focuses on the transformations, concerns and proposals that make up the new landscape of Retailing in Greece and internationally, seeking to transform the emerging future of Retailing into a holistic conference and exhibition experience.
Prof Dr Metaxas participated in the panel titled: “From policy to practice: a multi-faceted approach to tackle illicit tobacco trade and preserve market sustainability,” where, along with Mr Giorgos Pitsilis, director general of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), and Ms Georgia Karountzou, director of corporate affairs and communication at the Greek branch of Japan Tobacco International (JTI), they highlighted significant regulatory parameters to ensure fair competition in the tobacco sector as well as in every field of business activity.

Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates and chairman of the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute chaired the opening session of the Conference on the Reform of the EU electricity market design and the specificities of the Greek electricity market.
Among the panel speakers' are Mr. Athanasios Dagoumas, president of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAEWW), Mr. Yiannis (Ioannis) Yiarentis (Giarendis), chairman of the Board and CEO of Renewable Energy Sources Operators & Guarantees of Origin (DAPEEP SA), Mr Victor Papaconstantinou, president of the Hellenic Association of Independent Power Producers, Prof Pantelis Capros from the National Technical University of Athens and Mr Antonios Kontoleon, chairman of the Board of the Hellenic Union of Industrial Consumers of Energy (UNICEN).

Training | Athens Court of Appeal and Association of Judges & Prosecutors | 'Application of EU law on special tort & contract, commercial, capital market, and personal data - EU state aid and energy law within the jurisdiction of national courts'
Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, managing partner of Metaxas & Associates has been a keynote speaker at the training programme co-organised by the Court of Appeal of Athens as well as the Greek Association of Judges & Prosecutors on the 'Application of EU law on special tort & contract, commercial, capital market, and personal data - EU state aid and energy law within the jurisdiction of national courts' (February, 7 to April, 10 2024).
His lectures contained practical examples from emblematic legal disputes before national courts, whose solution depends on Union law the dialogue between union and national justice.

Present at the 7th Athens Conference on EU Energy Law and Policy: Scientific Challenges on the way to the Energy Transition
Metaxas & Associates Law Firm supports and actively participates in the annual renowned scientific conference jointly organised by the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute (HERI), the German Institute for Energy and Regulation (Institute für Energie und Regulierungsrecht) and the Research Group for Natural Resources Law, Environmental Law and Development Law of the University of Bergen (UiB) and had the support of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The 7th European Energy Law and Policy Conference titled “Scientific challenges on the way to the energy transition” took place on 14 December 2023.
Speakers were distinguished experts and academics who engaged into constructive discussussions on the latest developments in the energy news after the International Climate Conference (COP 28), the reform of the EU electricity market design, the EU policy on hydrogen and renewable gases, the prospects for offshore wind energy development, new trends in energy arbitration as well as ramifications of the EU’s withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty.
Scientific Directors of the Conference were our managing partner Prof Dr Antonis Metaxas, who is besides also Chairman of HERI, Prof Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui, Associate Professor and Lead of the Research group for Climate, Energy and Environmental Law, UiB and Prof Jochen Mohr, Chair of Civil Law, Competition Law, Energy Law, Regulatory Law and Labour Law, Universität Leipzig and Managing Director of the Berlin Institute for Energy and Regulation (EnReg).
